Can you bring your own gear into the military?
Lets say I have my own vest (with some pouches) , some magpul p-mags (without ammo) that can fit the standard issue m4/m16 and some magpuls, an Acog scope, a sling, and a pair of Oakley sunglasses, can I bring them with me if I ship out to wherever I go?
Don’t bring them to Basic.
However, once you are in your actual unit, it is up to unit policy how much personal gear you can use. Most of what you mention above, you will be issued anyway – or something very similar. You will likely have an ACOG, or something similar, on your rifle anyway if you are in the combat arms. As long as you are not using something dangerous, the rules are usually a little more relaxed once you are deployed.
I replaced three of my issue Rifleman pouches with slightly different, more usable ones, and added two more for specific gear I carried, used a larger IFAK pouch because I carried an extra tourniquet and shears, as well as using my own thigh holster, sling system, and magazine floor plates. I also used some of my own furniture on my rifle and pistol.
You’ll be issued plenty of good eye protection: Oakleys, RVS, ESS, etc.
The bottom line is bring whatever you want when you PCS to your unit, but wait until you go out on an exercise or two to see what is allowed and accepted by your NCOs.
