Spring is one of those funny seasons, it’s not cold enough to merit a big coat, but a cardigan is definitely not enough. This guide will help you find the perfect jacket for spring including the latest trends.
Quilted Men’s Jackets
One of the big men’s fashions for spring is the quilted jacket. This style is around waist length and features a lightly quilted appearance with diamond stitching. This farmer style jacket has been popular with both celebrities and normal blokes since autumn, although the style isn’t really warm enough for winter wear.
This style tends to come in just a few colours like black, navy or khaki and looks best with jeans and smart shoes or trainers at a push. Remember to check the length of your quilted jacket as if you’re tall or a bigger bloke you might need a longer length. Some retailers will offer a variety of lengths so you can get both the style and the fit you’re looking for.
Hoodies
Hoodies have something of a bad reputation, but lets face it – there’s nothing more comfortable. Just opt for a smart, clean style from your favourite brand. There are many brands that offer graphic hoodies or funny hoodies – the perfect way to get an individual look.
When it comes to casual wear a hoody can sometimes stand in for a jacket, particularly as the weather gets warmer. This look works well with some slouchy jeans and smarter trainers and is ideal for heading to the pub for the afternoon. But don’t fall into the trap of wearing a hoody too often. It’s a look that is strictly for casual use.
Military Jackets
Military jackets are set to be a big trend this season. They are the perfect style for smart wear thanks to the slightly tailored look. Often in dark shades like black and grey, a military jacket is the ideal look for work wear or even over a suit.
There are a variety of styles to choose from. If your military jacket is for winter to spring wear then go for a coat that is at least part wool, this will give you a warm jacket with a decent amount of waterproofing.
Alternatively there are plenty of canvas or cotton lightweight military jackets around. This style is ideal to take you from spring to summer and won’t offer the same warmth as a wool coat. It will, however, look great with jeans and trainers.
Harrington Jackets
The Harrington jacket has been popular for years, and once again its popularity is growing. A lightweight, casual look it’s ideal for spring, particularly on warmer days. A Harrington style jacket is usually waist length and features a band to the waist. Just add jeans and a shirt for a smart/casual look.
Duffle Jackets
The duffle jacket is a great style if you want a smarter coat with a hood. This style is seriously fashionable this spring, but be careful. Many duffle jackets are far too warm for spring and summer use.
If you still struggle to find the perfect jacket weight for spring then don’t forget, layers are your friends. Adding a cardigan under a lightweight jacket is often all you need, even on cooler spring days. If it’s the weather that worries you then keep a hat or umbrella close at hand.
