in desperate need of help with the vietnam war!?
ok i have a final exam on the vietnam war that has to be 5 pages in length. i read the article that my instructor has handed out to me but i honestly cant understand some of the vocabulary on it that has me confused about dates and people to remember:[ i also checked out books from my school and read them also but im still struggling i have to analyze, compare and contrast reason why the u.s. military opposed intervention vs. the reasons why the government felt that it was imperative that we become involved in a conflict that did not directly impact us.
i am trying my hardest on how to start my assignment but im so stressed out that in getting a good grade in this class.
i read and watch info on the vietnam but i dnt know how to go about this???
i cant even get clear information wen the war actually started with the french, and the amercians??
please someone advize me or anything would help???
Okay well I never gave it much thought myself but I’ll take a crack at for you. The war started after WWII when the French reoccupied Southeast Asia. The locals had just assisted in throwing out the Japanese and really didn’t want to be reoccupied by a colonial power. I believe Eisenhower lent some aid to the French. For us the war started in the early sixties under Kennedy if I’m thinking straight here. Initial aid was in the form of weapons and instructors to the South Vietnamese. It escalated under Johnson to combat troops. If I get the other part of the question, the military was not overly in favor of becoming involved as it would draw funds and resourses needed elsewhere. Armed Forces were embarking on a massive modernization project for the services that had to be put on hold for almost ten years, I’m here to tell you that things were tense in Germany for several years as our equipment was getting old and needed upgrading or replacing. The government was trying to implement Truman’s doctrine of stopping the spread of communism. Hope that’s a start for you, it’s about all the help I can be. Good luck on the paper.
