Military Camelbacks
Is this true about military issue?
This weekend I was purchasing a “Camelback” for my husband to use while ATV riding. For those unfamiliar – it is a backback apparatus with a drinking tube that is used to carry water etc. for hands free drinking. While making my purchase at the local motorcycle shop a woman stopped and told me how she had bought 5 of them to send to her husband and his comrades in Iraq. She said they had been lifesavers. My question is this. If these cost only $40 each to the average consumer and have a lifetime guarantee, why would they not be standard military issue? Why would a wife have to purchase a special device so that her husband could stay hydrated while in the desert? Or, was I misinformed that they are not standard issue?
Thanks for the answers. I can see there is a lot of difference depending on the unit you are assigned to. How many of you serving would think this would be a worthwhile community project for your particular unit? Anything we can do back here to help?
I was issued a cheap knockoff, so was my wife. We both did what a lot of military people do, we bought real ones. The knockoff you get issued isn’t as good.
