In the olden days when your parents got married, there wasn’t much to choose from as far as the top of the cake went. It was the simple bride and groom standing arm in arm. Plain and boring. In today’s world, you can more or less do anything you want and put anything on top of your cake. You do not have to follow any tends like everyone else has done. Think of your theme and go from there.
Couples today plan extravagant weddings and have many things no one ever done before. They have had outdoor weddings on a beach on a cliff…..even underwater! Planning your wedding topper by the theme of your wedding gives you many ideas to choose from.
If you’re having an outdoor wedding with a beach theme, you can have the bride and groom wearing bathing suits lying on the beach. If your hubby is into fishing, you can have the bride fishing the groom out of water! There are thousands of ideas to think up, just use your imagination.
Here are some of the ideas I have run across just to give you some ideas on what some couples have chosen for their wedding toppers:

• Photo of the two of you enjoying your favorite past-time
• Formal weddings have had monogrammed crystals of their letter of the last name
• Circle of Love
• Military
• Doves
Some of the couples are going for a funnier theme using:
• Groom on all fours crawling away
• Groom being lassoed
• Bride pushing the groom representing “Taking the Plunge”
• If the couple will be farming, use a tractor with the bride and groom sitting on top
• Bride wearing pants and the man not wearing any
These are just a few of the hundreds of ideas. You may have your own already and if not you can hire a wedding cake topper designer. Yes, they do have these. You just give them the theme and they will pop out a few ideas for you to go over. You decide what one you want and they will build it for you.
The theme of the wedding topper can be from your job to your lifestyle, your hobby, or your favorite past-time. Some have even had figurines of their whole family if they have children beforehand. It doesn’t matter you decide what you want. It is your wedding cake topper so you decide what you will have on top of it.
There are some wedding cake makers that will throw the topper in for free, depending on what type of cake you get. If you are having it designed to go with the theme of your cake or wedding you may want to work with both the designer and the bakery if they are separate.
Making up your own wedding cake topper is just another way of making your wedding your own.
