Historical Military Fiction
Mythology vs Historical Reality in MA?
There seems to be some widespread myths in the MA community about history as pertaining to warfare and martial arts. I would expect that from teenagers, but it seems to also be inflicting adults college educated, black belts, military vets, etc. Im talking about unarmed peasent warriors defeating on a regular basis highly trianed armored professional soldiers (samurai), ninjas, dim mak (which comes from US mystery fiction), western knights being slow, poorly trained, undiscipled warriors, etc., etc. It reminds of in the 80s and early 90s when all the TKD and karate kids in high school said “wrestling is not real fighting”. Explain how society has become a lot more aware of martial arts, both Eastern and Western (and even African) in general and still clings to these outdated myths?
Today, it’s about the dollar! Myths can make you money if they favor your side of things. How many people have actually witnessed Okinawan karate’s “one punch, certain death”? No one I bet, yet I read it and still hear about it. Could that story be just a tool to get karate students? You bet! Dollar-Dollar- Bill y’all. You don’t stop telling myths that make you look good…
